Physical Education

We think every young person should have the opportunity to thrive in Dance, Drama and Music.

Physical Education

The Physical Education Department at Manor CE Academy aims to develop and improve students’ health and wellbeing through a varied programme of sports and activities. Students are introduced to a range of basic and advanced skills covering the full content of PE curriculum. This includes:

  • Using a range of tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in direct competition through team and individual games
  • To develop their technique and improve their performance in other competitive sports such as athletics and gymnastics
  • To take part in outdoor and adventurous activities which present intellectual and physical challenges and be encouraged to work in a team, building on trust and developing skills to solve problems, either individually or as a group
  • To analyse their performances compared to previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best
  • To take part in competitive sports and activities outside school through community links or sports clubs

All students have access to two hours of high quality PE during the full five years at Manor CE Academy. At Key Stage 4, students can opt for a GCSE qualification in Physical Education.

The department also provides a variety of opportunities for extra curricular involvement through a range of teams and practices. This programme is seasonal and runs alongside the York and District competitions across the city. The academy also encourages students to compete at a inter school and inter house level as well as a ‘sport for all’ ethos at all team practices.

The faculty is supported by six members of staff who can provide expertise across a range of sports. It runs a variety of trips and visits throughout the year aimed at rewarding students for their commitment to academy teams and providing opportunities for students to witness professional sports people, teams and events.
