Welcome to Manor CE Academy
As Principal of Manor CE Academy, I am delighted to welcome you to our school. Thank you for applying to join us.
You are the latest in a very long line of students who have attended Manor as their school. We have a long and proud history having served the young people of York since 1812. We are a Church of England academy and our Christian vision and values guide, influence and underpin all that we do.
Our vision is that all our students “serve others, grow together and live life to the full”.
Manor has a reputation for academic excellence. We know how hard you have worked at primary school and we want you to work just as hard when you start here in September. How well you do in your tests and exams is very important, however, equally important to us is the sort of person you are. We want our students to be kind, loyal, patient, just, gracious, forgiving and compassionate. When you are at Manor you will have the opportunity to join all sorts of clubs, sporting teams, performing arts groups, you could join our Combined Cadet Force unit or take part in our Duke of Edinburgh award scheme or go on one of our amazing trips, maybe even to Malawi in Africa or Romania.
I hope you are excited to start with us in September, we are very much looking forward to meeting you all – I am sure that you will have an amazing time!

Preparing for secondary school
You are about to embark on the next phase in your life – the graduation of primary school and commencement of your secondary journey. You will learn new subjects, make new friends, develop new skills, and grow as an individual. We are so excited that this journey will be with us.
Manor CE Academy is a community. A community where every student is known, and every student is valued. Our academic, pastoral and extracurricular structures ensure that every child can succeed.
Our transition programme is amazing! We have so many events for you to take part in, to make that move from primary to secondary school less daunting, help you settle in and fully understand your role in school before September arrives.
In the meantime, keep working hard in Year 6 – make the most out of every moment that you have left at your current school, and we very much look forward to meeting you at our transition events.
Who to contact
Miss Scaum, Vice Principal: Student Welfare, is your first point of contact throughout the transition process and into the Autumn Term of Year 7.
“I know how nervous you are probably feeling – it may be that some of your friends are going to different schools, perhaps you’re worried about getting lost, or maybe you just feel anxious about getting it right from day one. These are all completely normal concerns and we are here to help ease these anxieties during transition, so that you can hit the ground running in September.
Manor CE Academy is a fantastic community and I am so pleased that you are becoming a part of it. You will absolutely love your time here! We have so much to offer both in and outside of the classroom – whatever your interests, strengths, or personality may be, there is something for everyone. I very much look forward to meeting you.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me."

Supporting students with additional needs during transition
Moving up from primary to secondary school can sometimes seem like a daunting and complicated experience. Some students are more vulnerable to the stresses and anxieties that come with a change this great, and as such may need additional support to help in the process. For example, students with special educational needs; challenging behaviour; difficulties in social interactions; or with specific medical conditions or disabilities, sometimes require just a little extra help in making the transition process successful. We are here to provide that support.
If you would like to discuss any of the above, please contact Miss Scaum

Dates for your diary
This year we have a number of students who are joining us from non-feeder primary schools, and as such may be the only student from their current primary school moving to Manor CE Academy. We recognise that this adds another level of anxiety to the whole process, and want to help.
With this in mind, we are holding an additional event, which will allow those new students who are coming from non-feeder primaries, to meet each other prior to the official transition day. By doing this we hope that to help facilitate the formation of new friendships, and ensure that there is a familiar face when all of our new students come together on 03 July. We would also like to invite those students with additional needs or difficulties to attend this preparation day.
Parents and students are invited to attend school to hear a presentation from Mr Cairns and Mr Stimpson (Head of Year 7). They will also have the opportunity to meet their tutors.
This is the citywide transition event. All Year 6 students within the City of York are given the opportunity to spend a day in their allocated secondary school. At Manor CE Academy this day is packed with activities that focus on primarily on fostering positive relationships, and developing confidence.
Additional Transition Day
This year, in addition to the citywide transition event, we are holding a second transition day. During this time, our new Year 7s will follow a timetable of lessons in the same way as our existing students. They will undertake familiarisation activities – both of the building, routines and expectations. It is a fantastic opportunity to iron out all of the creases, and alleviate some of those anxieties, before starting in September.
