Welcome back! I hope you have had a fun packed summer and have enjoyed happy times with family and friends. I am delighted to become Head of Year 8 and to have the opportunity to get to know you all better. I already know that you are a talented and creative group of people, and I look forward to seeing you growing together.

I’ve always thought that Year 8 is one of the best places to be. There are loads of great things to look forward to this year. The first is no longer being the youngest! This should give you bags of confidence as all the school rules and routines will be familiar to you. We will expect you to be role models for the Year 7 students. Remember how you felt in the first few days at school and try to help our new Year 7s through this exciting time. 

Secondly, you can look forward to loads of extracurricular opportunities. This is the time to try something new before GCSE options kick in. There are sports and performing arts clubs as well as the opportunity to join our Combined Cadet Force, and the chance to get involved in the first school production for a couple of years. I know from my time as Head of Year 11, that the happiest and most successful students are those who really get involved with the life of the school outside of lessons as well as working hard academically. My challenge to you is to sign up to something new. You never know where it might lead!

You have a great support network of form tutors and together we hope you have a positive and exciting year.
