Chess Club update: September 2018

We are hoping to run a weekly Chess Club from September 2018 afterschool in the Learning Resources Centre at Manor CE Academy as we acknowledge the benefits playing chess can bring to our students.

Children who play chess regularly can benefit from:

•  a raised IQ level;
•  increases in creativity and problem solving skills;
•  improvement in their memory, reading skills and concentration;
•  the teaching of planning and foresight.

Peter Clousdale, from York is an experienced English Chess Federation Coach and works in a number of local schools. It is expected that the Chess sessions will be extremely fun and for all levels of ability. They will include training together with competitions in the LRC.

There are a number of County events in which pupils can participate and specialist coaching will be provided on opening, middle game and end game strategies. A number of chess puzzles and positions will be analysed on the chess display board too. The weekly charge would be £3.00 payable half termly in advance. However, at this stage we are just trying to gauge numbers and have not set a date or time.

If you are interested in your child attending this fun and unique club, please complete the attached slip and return it to Mrs O’Neill in the LRC by 28th September 2018.
